About
The games I review
Working full time and caring for a toddler, I don't have a lot of time for 800-hour epics or multiplayer games that don't let you hit the pause button. So chances are, you will not see me reviewing the coolest, latest game. Instead, I love picking up shorter indie games, retro titles, or popular games that I missed the first time around. As a gamer I definitely feel pressured to keep up with the latest buzzy games, but I've totally embraced being out-of-the-loop! Sometimes it pays to dig deep into my embarrassingly big library of unplayed Steam titles and enjoy a personal moment with a game without feeling pressured to participate in the zeitgeist.

Why I made this
I like following games reviewers with their own perspectives on what makes games fun. To me, the best way to discover your new media isn't through objective review sites or an algorithm, but through friends whose tastes align with yours. So these reviews are totally subjective and my ratings are too -- if the "games are art" people really believe what they're saying, reviewers can't assign games a number or rank. No one rates fine artists like that. Anyway, rant aside, I made this as a creative outlet, to scratch an itch to have a big long ongoing project.
About me
By day, I'm a full-time Experience Design Manager at JPMorganChase, leading design teams in building new experiences for Chase card users. By night, I write code, play video games, and play with my 2-year-old. My first PC was a Compaq running Windows 3.1 (long gone) and my first video game console was the Game Boy (still works perfectly!).
I also make games! You can play them at ruthie.itch.io.
